A Rebuttal: David Corn - "Where Are All The UFO Photos?"
By James Neff

Columnist David Corn shot off a piece this last week asking "Where
are all the UFO photos?" (see article below). Clearly bored and
having nothing to write about, David takes a shot at the ole lazy
journalistic stand by... UFOs. And like most who do, he demonstrates
the usual lack of research and information. It's just the easy way
to rip out a column like burping after a full meal, and share a few
chuckles with like-minded blind men demanding to be shown that the
sky is blue.
David's basic contention is, with all the electronic media in the
hands of the public, where are all the UFO photos? On the surface,
a reasonable question, though the logic is a bit twisted. Anyone who
knows the slightest thing about UFO photographs is that they are usually
captured unexpectedly (few of us have landing or flight report schedules
from the overlords of the UFO, dontcha know) by amateur photographers
and usually in less than ideal situations.
But the real question here is, where are all the good reporters? David
demonstrates the problem at hand perfectly -- they don't care. They
don't investigate. They don't research. It's a foregone conclusion
among most so-called journalists that UFOs are the stuff of tabloids
and crazy people, despite the wealth of expert testimony from highly
trained military personnel, both aviators and grounded intelligence
officials in various capacities, experienced airline pilots, both
civilian and military radar facilities/personnel, aerospace experts
and astronauts (both US and Soviet/Russian). No, that doesn't help
them come to any firm conclusions, though these same journalists often
use less than this to convince their readers of a myriad of personal-agenda
driven political "truths" on a daily basis.
So, where are all the UFO photos, David? Alas, where are all the reporters!?
Have they conveniently tucked away the Phoenix Lights event, buying
the military 'flares' malarkey? How much time do they put into visiting
sites like Sightings.com, MUFON.com, UFOcasebook and dozens of others
which work tirelessly to chronicle the UFO activity around the world,
including many inexplicable, stunning photographic and video evidence?
It's not very likely that any photograph or video will be 'convincing
evidence of alien visitation,' so in effect, David has set up a straw-man
with big black eyes, bulging head and flashing lights and just knocked
it down. As for government conspiracy and cover-up being all but impossible
to David, the Confederacy of Dunces (to borrow a wonderful book title
from John Kennedy Toole) in D.C, Pentagon and the ever elusive shadow
government that hides in plain sight, and which issues such wonderful
double-speak as "UFOs are not a threat to national security"
like the USAF did (uh, was that an admission of their existence? Nahh,
couldn't be!), this could be argued until the cows come home (provided
they have not been mutilated, of course) because one man's conspiracy
is another man's laughable foolishness-- in this case, the 'cover-up'
has never worked!
The 'Cosmic Watergate,' as Stanton Friedman has termed it, has always
been hilariously blatant and in doing so plays the perfect hand duly
fitted for the status quo. The only thing that has worked in this
'conspiracy' is its ability to count on crappy journalism and an irresponsible
free press dedicated to ignoring the obvious.
David, et al -- the combined air forces of the civilized world do
not fire up multi-million dollar jet fighters and risk the lives of
the finest aerial guardians to chase Weekly World News 'Bat Boy' nonsense
or swamp gas zipping through the skies, much less firing on them.
Time to get a clue, do some research and pay attention! The fact of
the matter is, the number of UFO photographs has exponentially risen
with the advent of mass available digital photographic devices, and
just as it was before there were handy digital devices, UFO photos/videos
can never be what David and others in the press want them to be. They
are, when applied to rigorous and honest scrutiny, only evidence.
But lesser evidence has sent men to the gas chamber.
Article in question...
Okay, where are all the UFO pictures? And the UFO videos?
In recent years, the world has exploded with photographic and video
equipment. There are about 5 billion cell phones in circulation throughout
the world -- many, if not most, equipped with still and/or video cameras.
(The number of mobile broadband subscriptions will probably top a
billion globally this year.) And there are millions, if not billions,
of easy-to-use video cameras in circulation, as well as billions of
still-picture cameras. Essentially, billions of people are able to
snap or otherwise shoot the least bit interesting thing that happens
at a moment's notice.
So with all this gear in use, I'm wondering, why has no one captured
clear and unambiguous evidence of UFOs from outer space? And why have
none of the humans abducted by aliens flipped out their Flip video
cameras and shot a minute or two of the historic moment -- and later
uploaded it to YouTube? After all, any time a celebrity does something
really dumb, a cell phone video is on the Internet before he or she
can check into a rehab center.
Recently, there were notable UFO incidents in China. One shut down
the Xiaoshan Airport for 40 minutes, and photos hit the Internet showing
the unidentified object. Days later, another unidentified flying object
was sighted in eastern China, and a video was circulated showing a
plume in the air. Physicist Geoffrey Forden dismissed the photos of
the first incident as either Photoshop tomfoolery or photographs of
a Chinese ballistic missile launch. In any event, neither episode
yielded an undeniable shot of a spaceship.
