Bright Orange Lights Over Macclesfield UK

Spent the weekend in Macclesfield with my girlfriend and she's probably easier to work out than what we both witnessed, both stone cold sober and baffled. Very bright orange light moving at what seemed to be great speed and silent. There was cloud in the sky, but the light stayed constant. It was around 11:00pm and after about a minute or so it just disappeared.

About half an hour later we spotted two lights identical to the first travelling in the same direction and at a constant distance between each other. The leading light disappeared at roughly the same spot as the first followed shortly by the second. Any ideas as to what they could have been?
