Red With Brilliant Orange Light Over Greenwood, Indiana
Date: August 10, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:40 p.m.
Brian Vike's Note: in the report below the witness
refers to me seeing something that was similar, it wasn't me who saw
an object, but rather a witness who filed their report to Sightings.com.
Brian, I am a local Realtor and paranormal investigator. I hold a
BS degree in Biology and also happen to be married to an airline pilot.
I saw an object in the sky over my Greenwood, IN neighborhood at approx.
9:40pm the night of August 10th.
It was red with a brilliant orange light like a flame. At first I
thought it was a hot air balloon as that was the basic shape without
a basket. Hot air balloons don't keep their burners on steadily, nor
is the gas that color (they burn mostly blue) and are loud when the
gas is on. It was past sunset at this point, too dark for balloons
to fly. It was located approximately 500 - 1000 feet in the air.
It was moving laterally to the east and slightly south fairly rapidly.
I spotted it east of State Road 135 South, just south of Fry Road,
over the Whispering Trails subdivision. I briefly stopped my car to
observe it and noticed a neighbor standing in his yard watching it
as well. When I got to my friend's house in the neighborhood, he and
I went walking to try to spot it again but it was gone.
I know quite a bit about aviation and can tell you that this area
of airspace near my home is controlled by the Indianapolis International
Tower. When the wind is a certain direction they use Runway 32. The
approach path for this runway goes right over this neighborhood. At
the time of the sighting, I could see at least one airplane with its
landing lights on and in the pattern of approach for Indianapolis.
This object was so bright that the cockpit crew must have seen it.
They would have had a direct line of sight to it although they appeared
to be at 5,000 feet or so. We are also a neighborhood that the TEPPCO
oil pipeline runs through, so we have a pipeline patrol plane that
flies over on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure they get a waiver to
fly below the FAA minimum altitude of 1000 feet over ground structures.
It is my past observation of these aircraft over the trees in my neighborhood
that leads me to think that the object was below 1000 feet.
Please feel free to contact me at the number below. If you are local,
I would be happy to meet you and show you the exact location I saw
this. I noticed in your post that the date you saw something similar
was in July. I just started checking the internet to see if anyone
else reported this. You may contact me, but please keep my name confidential
in any posting or reuse of this information.
Sincerely.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind
enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net
