Fast Moving Bright Object North Of York UK

Hello Brian, I was sat outside this evening (24 Apr 10) having a BBQ with some neighbors when around 9:00pm, my wife exclaimed 'look at that'. We all looked up to see a bright object moving overhead from east to west. Along with all of the other sightings on this site, it appeared to be 'burning' and moved at an extremely fast speed across the sky, too fast to be an aircraft and too slow to be a shooting star. At first sight it appeared to be a lantern, such was the impression of burning, but we quickly discounted this theory due to it's incredible speed.

It made no sound whatsoever, implying it was at a great height and left no contrails. Having found this website, it appears we are not alone in seeing this phenomenon. We are all intrigued as to what it may be. Regards.
