18 Bright Orange Balls Of Light Over Isle of Skye Scotland

Hello there, at precisely 22:23 on Saturday February 27th 2010, a friend and I were driving through the peninsula of Sleat (Isle of Skye)

To our amazement we both observed some 18 bright orange balls floating over the centre of the peninsula. They looked like very, orange planets. They were below the fairly low-lying clouds and some of them moved slowly with a sort of random motion and, one by one, disappeared. Then a second, smaller batch appeared. They also moved about slowly before fading away after a couple of minutes. No sound. If I had been alone, I would have thought I had dreamt it, but there were two of us. We are both rational, highly educated people with good scientific backgrounds (if that is of any relevance!)

Any ideas? Flares perhaps from a ship in distress? But they didn't rise into the sky and they didn't fall to the ground. They just faded away.

Some sort of military exercise perhaps? This area is riddled with sophisticated systems for killing the Queen's enemies...
